FAQ—Is course content different between the Downloadable PDF and the Mailed Hardcopy? How are the two options different?
No, the course content is exactly the same. The primary difference between the two options is how the course is delivered to you and your options to complete the course quizzes.
When ordering the Downloadable PDF, an email will be sent from which to access the course and print the materials. The Downloadable PDF will also be accessible through the My Account tab. The PDF includes the course lessons and the course quizzes. The course quizzes will then be available to be taken electronically (online). To access, simply login through the My Courses tab on the website. Once completed, the quizzes will be immediately graded and upon verification of course completion a Certificate of Achievement will be mailed to you.
When ordering the Mailed Hardcopy the same course materials will be sent via USPS. The course lessons are printed on 3-hole punch paper, suitable for adding to a 3-ring binder. Upon completion of ALL six quizzes they are then returned to NHEEC for instructor grading. They may be scanned and returned together via email to admin@NewHorizonsEquine.com or they may be mailed to New Horizons. The graded quizzes and Certificate of Achievement will be returned to you via USPS. If, however, you would rather complete the quizzes online, you will also have access to the quizzes through the My Courses tab and upon verification of course completion a Certificate of Achievement will be mailed to you.
FAQ—Do I need to buy additional books or materials to complete the course?
No. Other course materials or books are not required to complete the various courses. When ordering a course, you receive all that is necessary to complete that particular course, although we highly recommend considering the purchase of New Horizons’ Dictionary of Equine Terms.
FAQ—I’ve ordered and received a course. What’s next in terms of study recommendations and testing instructions?
Every student is unique and study habits can vastly differ, however, over the years many have found the following recommendations and instructions to be helpful:
General Instructions and Recommended Study Routine for All Courses
- Read the text at least two times. In order to reap maximum benefit when completing the lessons, we encourage students to invest adequate time and thought into each lesson until all terminology and concepts are completely understood. We also suggest using reputable internet sources, equine magazines, and library materials to further explore topics of special interest.
- Create notes for review and further study. We recommend starting a personal notebook to include your notes and other information of specific interest to you and your situation.
- There is no time limit for completion of courses, although we recommend that one course be completed per month (i.e. EQU 101—April, EQU 102—May, etc.)
Testing Instructions
Keep in mind that a 70% passing score is required on each quiz in order to obtain a Certificate of Achievement. Because the testing is open book, you are given one opportunity to complete the quizzes, whether online (if you ordered the Downloadable PDF) or by hand (if you ordered the Mailed Hardcopy). However, if you wish to retake a quiz to better your score, you may order a Quiz Reassessment from our website. Know that a $40 reassessment fee will be charged. Further instructions are included below:
If you ordered a Downloadable PDF you will have access to complete your quizzes online. Since the quiz is included with the Downloadable PDF, we recommend initially completing the exam by hand, reviewing your answers, and then completing the quiz electronically. To access, simply login through the My Courses tab on the website. Quizzes will be graded immediately online and upon verification of course completion a Certificate of Achievement will be mailed to you.
If you ordered a Mailed Hardcopy the quizzes may be scanned and returned via email to admin@NewHorizonsEquine.com or they may be mailed for hand grading to NHEEC, 5101 Old Hwy 5, #706, Lebanon, GA 30146. Return ALL quizzes together for grading and certificate processing. If sent separately, individual quizzes will be held for grading until the complete set of quizzes is received. The graded quizzes and Certificate of Achievement will then be returned via USPS. If, however, you would rather complete the quizzes online, you will also have access to the quizzes through the My Courses tab and upon verification of course completion a Certificate of Achievement will be mailed to you.
